GHG emissions assessment in Ukraine on the way to climate neutrality and ETS introduction

On the 25th of June, 2024 the EU accession negotiations for Ukraine and Moldova officially started. Climate policy and goals are expected to be in the center of attention within the negotiations process and following domestic reforms in Ukraine leading to a successful and smooth transition towards climate neutrality and modernization of the domestic industrial and energy sector.

Green Deal Ukraїna project has prepared a detailed analysis of the current GHG emissions assessment in Ukraine and opportunities for improving the process with the view of future introduction of the ETS mechanisms and ensuring the preconditions for the successful decarbonization reforms in Ukraine.

The paper focuses on the fundamentals of climate neutrality policies and GHG emissions assessment, the ongoing efforts in GHG emissions assessment in Ukraine, comparing the situation with EU peers and projecting the possible scope of ETS sectors.
