On the reconstruction front line: Ukrainian municipalities and the funding landscape

Organiser: CEE Bankwatch and Centre for Environmental Initiatives “Ecoaction”

Format: online

Ukrainian municipalities, local governments, citizens and volunteers are all on the front line. Not only do they face the challenges of war, but they also have to rebuild damaged infrastructure, assist internally displaced persons, provide basic services to the population, and support the army. Currently, these efforts are being funded by local budgets, assistance from twin cities, humanitarian funds and volunteer projects, as well as government grants and state-funded projects.

However, there is an urgent need to increase funding and make it more accessible for municipalities. At this online event, CEE Bankwatch launched a series of reports entitled ‘On the reconstruction front line: Ukrainian municipalities and the funding landscape’ which explores the availability of funding for municipalities at local, national and international levels. The event was aimed at a wide range of stakeholders with an interest in the reconstruction of Ukraine, including representatives of Ukrainian municipalities, local, regional and national authorities, funding programmes, financial institutions, civil society, experts and consultants.
